BYSA - Notes for Coaches

Topic

Coach Tips

We play soccer in the rain! Especially true for U10, U12, U14, and HS! For In-Town - U05, U06, & U08 - coaches can use their judgement.

BYSA is Recreational soccer - all players should play at least 50% of a game. Emphasize learning and fun.

Please do NOT use lines as formation aids! [E.g., defense can’t cross center line] It causes bad habits!

Field Care

Move Nets and Sand Bags to let grass recover

Encourage goalies to move off of the goal line!

Forbush Fields

Specific field locations are identified on the schedule:

A – Large field along parking lot

B – Large field along the road

C – Set of three small U5/U6 fields at far end from parking lot

NVYSL Game Cancellation Policy

For U10, U12, U14, and HS:

If the Home team does not call a game due to Unsafe Playing Conditions two (2) hours prior to the scheduled start, then you MUST show up at the field.

After the 2-hour mark, it is the Referee’s decision is a field is playable. Coaches can provide input based on safety concerns.

Unsafe Playing Conditions include standing water and thunder & lighting.

Score Reporting

U5-U8    - Coaches can track for team balancing next season

U10        - See U10 Score Reporting menu item on Coaches tab

U12+      - Post via the Results menu item on the Admin tab

Evaluations

To assist in future team placements, BYSA collects coach evaluations of players on U10+ teams and U08 players moving up to U10.

All coaches (head and assistants) should create independent evaluations.

Forms are posted on the Coaches section(s) of the website
